The Independent Life Program is specifically intended for youth who are of appropriate age and who wish to begin an independent life once they leave Casa Alianza.
For all children and teens that come to Casa Alianza, finding a new life outside of Casa Alianza can be extremely difficult. As such, the Independent Life Program, which often collaborates with the Family Reintegration Team, works to ensure that young adults have been given the necessary tools, education, training and employment placement, to be able to live independently. Economic self-sustainably is sometimes further supported with assistance in establishing micro businesses where possible and appropriate.
Independent Life Program staff assist children and teens in finding adequate living situations as well as offering support in areas such as budgeting, creating savings, workplace behavior, dress codes, use of free time, and other practices that will help ensure not only existence outside of Casa Alianza – but success.
When possible, young people who have left Casa Alianza are followed for a significant period of time to provide support during the critical transitional phase to independent living. Follow-up includes periodic counseling and peer-to-peer support from Casa Alianza alumni who have been successful in finding a new life.
